One Week in Rio de Janeiro

So we've had a great week staying with my Aunt and Uncle in Rio. We've been to lots of beaches, up Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf and gained about 2 stone thanks to my Aunts great cooking. It was a really nice break from hostels and our own cooking which is really not of a great standard. We went up Christ the Redeemer on Tuesday and luckily we had gotten up early and got the train up at 9am by 10am it was so busy you could barely move! The views were amazing though and the statue was huuuuuuuuge. We then headed over to Sugar Loaf Mountain and got the cable cart to the top. There was way more space here so it wasn't nearly as crammed as Christ. The views were even more spectacular and we sat and enjoyed a couple of Caipirinha's which are the local cocktails of Brazil. Very nice! To finish off our busy day we headed to the Scottish Country Dancing club that my aunt and uncle are members of. I couldn't persuade Will to join in but he did find some squash courts and a couple of guys to have a hit about with so he was alright. After a couple of Gay Gordons and Dashing White Sergents it was time to head back home and we were knackered!

Towards the end of the week the weather turned and there was no more going to the beach. That was fine though as we'd had enough of lying in the sun. Instead we went out for lunch a couple of times, went on a couple of walks enjoying the beautifull scenery of Rio, did a spot of shopping (Will bought a Brazil football shirt which is nice!) And generally we just chilled out and enjoyed our time in Rio so a big thank you to my Aunt and Uncle!

By the looks of things the World Cup and Olympics are going to be incredible there!
