huacuachina, peru

We left Lima on Friday morning to head to Huacuachina. It was only a 4 hour journey but the bus was amazing! We got to watch a film and they gave us a sandwich, apple and drink for lunch! Cheaper and a lot better than the greyhound. At the bus station in huacuachina we got harassed by a taxi driver trying to make us stay at a certain hostel. We hadn't booked one yet so we just said we wanted to have a look around first but that didn't matter as he took us straight to the hostel he wanted us to go to and walked us to the reception. Great. We got a super cheap rate though it only cost us 20 soles for a night so that was fine! That's about £5!

That evening we headed to the sand dunes for some sand bugging and sand boarding. The sand bugging was so scary! We were dipping in and out of like vertical sand dunes! At one pointwpoint wills seatbelt came off and I thought he was going to fly out the vehicle! The sandboarding... well.. being a snowboarder I was like this is going to be easy, absolutely not! HahaIf was face planting left, right and centre and decided to go down on my stomach which was more fun! Will on the other hand was ace at it , getting some turns in and having a ball! It was great fun though!

Our room in our hostel was like a sauna! It was unreal. No fan or aircon or anything and only one tiny window which we didn't want to open incase of the mosquitos. We watched the sunset from the lagoon which was really pretty. In the day time the lagoon doesn't look quite as nice.. lots of local children swimming in there but no travellers or adults haha. It just looked a bit dirty.

We met 3 more travellers who we had dinner with. A couple who had been in Peru for 5 weeks already and gave us lots of advice on food to eat and things and a found guy who was travelling alone and had just arrived in Peru as well. My favourite thing is to swap stories with everyone. It's really cool hearing about everyone's different adventures.

One night in huacuachina was enough as there isn't much to do other than the sand dune activities so we got a night bus to arequipa and have arrived here just in time to watch the arsenal sgame. Once again the bus service was amazing with receivable chairs, movies and breakfast. Perfect! We've booked some downhill mountain biking for tomorrow and are going to do a 3 day trek to a canyon. Hopefully get to see some volcanoes as well!
